Hans Signer was born in Zurich in 1956 and has been a photographer for nearly 30 years. He has been a regular visitor to America since the early 1980s.
Singer has long been fascinated by American culture, be it the iconic paintings of Edward Hopper, the towering skyscrapers of the Big Apple or the larger than life “classic” automobiles of the 1940s and 1950s. Gritty American film noir movies are perhaps Signer’s greatest love, inspiring the long shadows and anonymous passers-by in his unmistakably high contrast black and white photographs.
